A letter and illustration by J.R.R. Tolkien and sent from ‘Father Christmas’ to his children in 1925.

Tolkien first sent a Christmas letter to his three-year-old son in 1920. He continued this tradition, eventually sending letters to all four of his children, for the next twenty years. A transcript of Father Christmas’ rather shaky penmanship is on Letters of Note.
