After an Istanbul premiere in January of 2016, Banksy’s unofficial and unauthorized retrospective is currently on view at Amsterdam’s Beurs van Berlage. The Art of Banksy includes over 85 pieces selected by the elusive artist’s former agent, Steve Lazarides, making it the biggest show of Banksy work ever put together.
Along with some previously unexhibited originals, including crude oils, works on paper, wood, canvas as well as rare sculptural works, the exhibition also includes previously unseen behind the scenes as well as work in progress images from curator’s personal archives. Carefully selected in order to cover most of artist’s recognizable periods or bodies of work, the showcase consists of privately owned pieces by some 30-40 collectors from around the globe. Giving a great overview of his limited edition releases, from the most well known ones to the rarest and most limited ones, each piece is accompanied with a little bit of info. Sometimes a technical fact, sometimes a story, sometimes trivia related to the piece, these explanations give a nice personal note to the whole showing.
The exhibition opened on the 18th of June and will be running through the summer until the 30th of September, and although organized without the consent of the British artist, it is still a great opportunity for fans to enjoy his work.
