Pencil Illustration, Animation and Day Dreaming with Jun Cen

Jun Cen describing his process to be “like day dreaming” makes complete sense. His work is dreamlike, as well as filled with nostalgia and emotion. You can’t help but create romantic stories when looking at his pencil illustrations. It’s something that makes them transition so perfectly into his animations.

Mutual Tunnels‘, which was first screened at Illustrative 13 in Berlin, captures the same atmospheric sense of style. The short film plays with the “linear characteristic of time” in a beautifully seductive and enchanting way.

Jun talks us through the development of his personal work and how the thought process is as important as the drawn one. Also, take a long look at the wonderful ‘Mutual Tunnels‘, which contains some adult themes.

They collide in a wonderful pattern of the beautiful and the macabre. Scroll down for a glimpse of drawings in progress that reveal the work put into the detail.
