October 17th, 1604, the date of the first recorded observation of the supernova SN 1604 by Johannes Kepler.

SN 1604 was bright enough to be visible during the day. It was the last recorded supernova observed inside the Milky Way.

In the image of Ophiuchus, the supernova can be seen in the constellation’s right heel, marked with an “N”.
